Maritime History
Originating from the port of Camaret-sur-Mer in Brittany, the Langoustier was a specialized French sailing vessel engineered explicitly for offshore lobster and crustacean fishing. Equipped with an open internal seawater tank (vivier) to keep the catch alive, these rugged dundee and sloop-rigged boats sailed as far as Portugal and Mauritania. Renowned for their incredible stability and ability to face the rough Atlantic seas, they remain an enduring emblem of 19th and early 20th-century artisanal seamanship.
