Maritime History
Launched in 1896 as a French merchant cargo ship, the Belem transported sugar and cocoa from the West Indies and Brazil. After surviving the volcanic eruption of Mount Pelée and changing owners multiple times, she was converted into a prestigious training ship. Today, she is a classified historical monument and remains one of the oldest and most celebrated sailing ambassadors in the world.
