Maritime History

Built in 1663 during the height of the Anglo-Dutch Wars, the Friesland was a heavily armed second-rate battleship of the United Provinces of the Netherlands. She distinguished herself as a fierce defender of the Dutch Republic, taking part in the legendary Battle of Solebay in 1672 against the combined English and French fleets. Armed with up to 80 cannons, her robust design and decorative craftsmanship epitomized the pinnacle of 17th-century naval supremacy.
