Yacht Endeavour Class-J History

The J-Class yacht Endeavour, commissioned by British aviation pioneer Sir Thomas Sopwith, remains one of the most iconic vessels in America’s Cup history.

Designed by Charles Nicholson and launched in 1934, it challenged the U.S. defender Rainbow in a dramatic 1934 Cup series.

Endeavour introduced groundbreaking features like the quadrilateral genoa sail and advanced winch systems, outpacing Rainbow in early races. However, tactical errors and crew disputes led to a 4-2 loss, cementing its reputation as a “nearly” legend.
